Christmas Music - best, worst, and weirdest

It's that time of year again. Love it or hate it, there's no escaping it. The holiday season just wouldn't be the same without that familiar Christmas music being piped in everywhere: malls, elevators, radio, TV. Whether it's a song, carol, hymn, or jingle, here's a place to discuss your picks for the best, worst, funniest and weirdest Christmas music.

Here are mine:

Best: In the Bleak Midwinter, music by Gustav Holst, words by Christina Rossetti

Worst: a much more difficult choice as there's so much to choose from. I'll go with Jingle Bell Rock. I'll turn off the car radio every time, no matter who's singing it.

Funniest: At the risk of dating myself, here are some fractured lyrics by Walt Kelly from the comic strip Pogo:

"Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer" has got to be one of the worst.

My favorite is "Silent Night".

I just wish I could escape some of it. Every mall, every radio station since Halloween here in the UK has been pushing Christmas. I wonder what people of other faiths have to say about the craziness.

In the Seattle area they used to start the day after Thanksgiving. Warm 106.9....started at least a week earlier.

I love Celtic Christmas music and the classic carols. I listen to my favorite CD's because radio stations do not play what I like. So I would suggest find some CD's you like and forget about listening to the radio!! And I would love to visit Wales someday. My hubby is English and Welsh.
