Eye/facial creams

I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere. I am pretty new to this site and haven't quite got the hang of navigation.

So...anybody have experience with trying eye creams or facial creams to help with wrinkles and dry skin? This website is so wonderful in that there is such a diverse group of people posting and I figured this was a good place to scope out ideas.

Knock on wood...I am not that self-conscious about my appearance (maybe just a tad) but would like to take care of my aging skin as best as i can. Knock on wood (again) I have been blessed with "good" genes and have good lifestyle habits (limit my time in the sun, non-smoker) so I don't have many lines on my faces. But...I am getting these circles under my eyes and leetle leetle lines are starting to show up.

Do any of these eye creams work? And do they all have to cost a fortune? I am reluctant to just go out and buy a few without hearing the experiences of others. I realize everyone has different skin types but I'd like to hear what you think works/doesn't work.

CAVEATS for me...I have mild rosacea, and stuff with a lot of scent tends to make my skin break out in a rash. I use Cetaphil to cleanse my skin and Metrogel for the rosacea, which works for me.

Also, which concealers work best for you?

THANKS!

Hi Tulip,

I've got a few teeny teeny lines around the eyes, too....can't seem to do much about them, and I refuse to spend $50 (or more) a jar for some exotic wonder cream. I just use Ponds for a moisturizer in the winter, and Oil of Olay in the summer. Oh, and I never use soap on my face. Baby wipes are great for cleaning off makeup and oil, and they don't dry out my skin.

As for concealer, I don't use it. BUT, the "mineral" foundations do a good job of concealing, at least for me. I tried the Bare Minerals stuff, and I liked it....but that being said, L'Oreal has a very similar product, and I think it has better coverage. Doesn't look like a mask, and at least it doesn't highlight the teeny tiny wrinkles....and it covers blemishes nicely.

Hope that helps!

Hi Tulip,

The new formulations with peptides are really the best; the peptides are engineered to impart different activities, such as stimulating collagen production, brightening skin tone (by interfering with the melanogensis cycle), and relaxing facial muscles. Problem is, any products formulated effectively are quite expensive.

That said, an effective exfoliation routine matched with a product that supplies a good barrier (glycerin, silicones, plus a humectant such as hyaluronic acid) is a good way to go. And always, always use sunscreen.

Don't exfoliate more than once a week to avoid irritation and what is called "overprocessed skin," which can exacerbate rosacea and acne. AHAs are great for rosacea.

Sorry I can't offer specific brand names. I would consult with an esthetician, or even a dermatologist. They will both be able to recommend brand names.

Lisa, my friend had recommended Oil of Olay Regenerist cream (inexpensive)..it has concentrated Amino-Peptide complex...is that a good one? My skin is so dry right now and the cold weather has just started.

Zumba, I use that line and love it. I have sensitive skin, and it does not cause me irritation. The freaking "eye pods" are magic if you ask me....

If you want to check it out, go to the Olay web site. "sometimes" there are offers or freebies on there. That's how I tried the "pods" the first time....

Okay...I'm having trouble figuring out how to respond to individual posts and replies, so I'm offering an all-around THANKS! to those who have replied.

Lisa...what are AHAs? I have been a little concerned about exfoliants and rosacea, e.g. will they aggravate my skin. Sometimes it is difficult to anticipate what will (or will not) bother my skin. I think rosacea is like a lot of conditions...it manifests differently in different individuals, so for me there's a lot of trial-and-error. Once, again, thanks for your input.

Skinceuticals has a great 1.0 retinal cream that works wonders on my laugh lines. I found it online and it wasn't very expensive. There is no smell so that shouldn't be a problem. To cover lines, circles, and discoloration around my eyes, I use Bobbie Brown concealer. I found a sample size on Ebay for very little money and a little of this stuff goes a long way. Hope that helps! Love the topic. Always looking for tips that don't include scalpels!
