How Tactful are you when it comes to Tacky?

I'm an almost pretty good knitter.

Not really.

My knitting stinks.

But what if I decided that I care for you so much that I wanted to do something very, very special for you...like badly knit you a sweater?

If I poured my heart into this thing, that is as far from fashionable as it can get...would you wear it? Would you just wear it around me (which means 'never' for all of you...except for Harvey who would only have to wear it once)? Would you give (or throw) it away and never tell me? Would it sit in the closet with Aunt Clara's platypus desk lamp?

How to you handle those gifts of sincerity that make you want to vomit?

I would like to say that I cherish them all because they've come from the heart. Unfortunately, it depends upon who gave it to me. When my DIL was a little girl and did my hair in a french braid, I wouldn't dare hurt her feelings by taking it out before we went to the store (it was off-center). When my MIL gave me a statue of the Vatican (I'm not Catholic), it sat in my closet for decades. I can only knit blankets and scarves (knit one, perl one), so if someone knitted a sweater especially for me, I would wear it. Maybe only at home, but I would wear it. [My favorite color is blue, Pru]

I wear them around the person who gave me the gift. For example, my mom often buys me very loud, brightly flowered tops or kiwi lime green shirts. (She thinks lime green is my best color.) So, when we get together, out comes the flowered print or the lime green! After a few years I usually weed out the uglies.

Pru, if you knitted me a sweater, I'd wear it while typing.

Booboo, the sweater I'm making you is chartreuse...is that close enough?

I would wear the sweater. If it comes from the heart and is done with love and sincerity NO gift would make me vomit. Whatever it is carrys its own energy of beauty

If you like lime green...I'll just give you the one I'm making for Booboo.

Problem solved.

One of your arms wouldn't happen to be longer than the other would it?

First I would give you a look like this..........Then a gracious "why you shouldn't have" (thinking to myself, NO REALLY, you shouldn't have) Months later you would probably find a homeless person wearing it.

uh......Thanks???
