Abuse of TAGS

Is anyone else annoyed by the increased misuse/abuse of TAGS? The most recent, flagrant examples are the Obama hate posts that carry "sex" TAGS.

Is there a way to control this?

Sure would be nice if there were.

Some posters simply copy all the terms from the example keywords list. It's simply misleading, and renders tags practically useless.

Slashdot has a partial answer for this (although nobody takes the tags all that seriously over there) -- the tags are chosen by the readers of each article, not the poster.

hogback- i was unaware of this problem until i saw your post. what an assanine and extremely annoying new trend. the best way to deal with this would be to bring it to the editor's attention, by posting it in the TBD Feedback Group. The editor(s) and staff will then admonish those posters accordingly, I would think.

This is a trick used by bloggers and other advertiser supported websites. It attracts "hits" to the site thus increasing the status of the site in the eyes of merchandisers.

Here on TBD, people do it just as a joke....part of having fun.
