Be a Citizen SoldierPosted: Dec 31, 07 1:02pmA New Years Wish; Remember you own a piece of this Republic and a responsibility for its health Dear Friends and Acquaintances, As you have noticed (or possibly not), I spend a great deal of my time here at TBD railing against the current state of affairs of the good ship USS United States. No doubt, I should find other more impactful venues for my Don Quixote Digital Jousting. That said, I have read many thoughtful and moving communications here at TBD and hence know that there are great patriots (current and potential) of the real kind. It is all too easy to accept your impotence, delve into distractions of varying import and it is those traps that those in power hope dissuade you from true engagement in the exercise of democracy. Both parties try various methods to urge “certain people” to participate in our government. However, it is never in the form of educating and empowerment, it is all too often tossing out issues of divisiveness of lesser import and hence drives the gullible and goat able into fervent support for an enemy invented to distract you from the real power…an informed and engaged citizenry. Regardless of your political bent, I encourage your be more engaged and more informed and I thank those here atTBD who have shared ideas helped make me a more informed citizen. I want to share a few quotes that I hope will nudge you to elevate your involvement in our “great experiment”… Edmund Burke He who wrestles with us strengthens our nerves and sharpens our skill. Our antagonist is our helper. Hypocrisy can afford to be magnificent in its promises; for never intending to go beyond promises; it costs nothing. And of course… The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Benjamin Franklin All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable, and those that move. Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. As we must account for every idle word, so must we account for every idle silence. Thomas Jefferson A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference. All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every Free State. George Patton Better to fight for something than live for nothing. Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity. A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week In my humble opinion our Republic is in peril and needs your engagement…thinking you are too busy, too small, too powerless to be a force for positive change is exactly the reason we are where we are. For those of you already very engaged, thank you from a former candidate, a current railer and future Don Quixote with a tad more resources.
Happy New Year
