Is R Kelly the new King?

Okay, this doesn't quite fall into the classic R&B category, but I think R Kelly is slowly but surely becoming the next R&B king. I mean, can you think of anyone else in R&B that can lay claim to that title? I was at my nephew's house last week, and I caught a glimpse of Kells' new song, "I'm a Flirt" and I have to say, he is the new king! Despite his checkered past, he's the one that people call on when they need a sure-fire R&B croner.

"This is the remix edition to the song about...." Yeah, no way that's gonna happen. He hasn't beaten that rap yet. I'll give it to him, he's audacious in his writing. But I don't think America is gonna let that videotaped tryst with the underage girl slide...

Chappelle, indirectly boosting R's career.

Hi Cash,

I don't think he's anywhere near "king" status. There are a few real R+B wannabees out there, but none fit the title of "King." At least not for us ole heads.

Personally, I think the "king" position has been usurped by the ladies. Those two being: Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys.

Shout out to you, Tyssa...as far as I'm concerned there have always been Queens of Soul - Aretha, Diana, Anita, Dionne. They are the leaders. Mary J. is on the throne, I'm not a big Alicia fan, but I do think Corinne Baily Ray has a good shot...

If you guys don't think R Kelly is the King of R&B, who is the King?

I don't think there is a King right now. Most of the current male R&B acts are corny & out of touch.
