Betty, I don't understand the rating system with thumbs up and numbers. I see that if I click on a number it goes up, but what does that mean?

Hi, Isadora -- Great question. The "thumbs up" rating is the front end of what will eventually become a sorting tool. You will be able to sort by ratings, in addition to most recent. At this stage, we don't have that back-end hooked up yet but are aggregating votes so we can have something to start with.

Also I should mention that votes will eventually expire - this is to make sure that newer content has a fair shake at getting rated highly.

We are actually evaluating these sort features. One idea was to have "sort by author," too. Any thoughts on that, or other fields you';d like to be able to sort on?

Thanks!

Betty,

As far as topics go for many boomers, I think 'Family' (child raising, medical issues, education, pets, etc.) would be a great topic.

Great suggestion, John --

We're looking at which topic areas to expand on shortly here.

What elements of a family topic area would be most useful to you? Expert articles and/or asking experts? Discussing/sharing resources with peers? Reviews of products, services, etc?

I think I'd be looking for a mixture of advice, maybe some selected resources and expert articles. Maybe even some Craiglist style free stuff or stuff for sale among local groups... one example of this sort of service is the Berkeley Parenting Network.

Berkeley Parents Network is an awesome resource, and I agree that we could offer something similar without the localized constraints. Great idea(s). thanks!

Being able to only rate "up" seems to fly in the face of what rating is all about. Why shouldn't one have the ability to rate up or down at the very least?
