Got your attention? A week of so ago I saw a TBD post float by that asked "when is it okay to use the F word", well I offer this little tidbit of info as a qualifying event...

Last Night the Commander and Chief took 52 minutes of primetime to share with us his last Sate of the Union address. Unencumbered with the burden of re-election pressures and clearly poised to articulate his selfless vision of his Presidency and our future, GWB made a few credible and compelling arguments advocating a course change to the Congress and our next leader;

None the least of which was a moment of introspection as he admitted that his team tried and failed to reduce the practice of "earmarking". In fact, he raised his eyebrow and stared down the Congress and claimed..."no mas". He said he would VETO (btw; he has only veto'd 3 bills in 7 years) any legislation that was placed on his desk laden with spending that had not seen the light of day nor survived an up/down vote. He went further; I'll direct my adminstration to ignore any spending authorizations that have not met the "up/down" vote criteria.

Wow! While I was disappointed that this epiphany had come 7 years too late (Earmarks are at record highs 2000-2007), at least he is setting an example for future leadership.

Of course, the devil is always in the details. The impact of his "executive order" directing administrative staff to ignore earmark spending does not take effect until 2009. Which essentially means from Jan 1st 2009 to Jan 20th 2009 we will have a "locked box" of earmarkless spending.

Way to go, George....that's really throwing down the Gauntlet.

He also added some prattle about;

*energy independence

*a secured border

*educational reform

Blow Me, of course I mean that in the most respective manner possible. In the future, I will not make a single disparaging remark about our President (of course that quarantine will not take effective until 1-19-2009).

wcbiv49, I'm worried you don't eat enough fiber. Have you tried earmarking a box of All-Bran?

I had the state of the union on while sitting right here @ my computer. After awhile, my ears started hurting. The voice of Mr. President started sounded like the adults on a Peanuts cartoon. WHA WHA WHA WHA WHA WHAAAAAAAAAAA. Only with a boring twang. Click. TV off.

I'm with you, Spuff, it only took me a second, when I saw Bush's smug face to quickly change channels.
