Giving Until It Hurts

For those who say our generation is narcissistic, they should read the story in today's Wall Street Journal about a trend noted by philanthropies...people who donate so much money that it affects the standard of living they can afford. I have also noticed various baby boomers donating their time and effort until it hurts, but thinking that it was well worth it.

Actually, what we have heard from the nonprofit world is that they are overwhelmed with boomer volunteers...still need more cash, but not so much in need of time! Is that what others are hearing?

It might vary by region. Volunteers here in Central Florida are often in short supply. Both money and time are still needed.
