The budget sent to congress by the President reached a record level of spending...we have eclipsed the 3 Trillion Dollar mark. Or in very simple terms $10,000 for each man, woman and child in the Nation legally :)

So, assume you have full sway over your 10K and could vote how it was spent, directed, cut, grown, or otherwise manicured...How would you direct those dollars;

As for me;

I haven't a clue, but here is my one idea

Spend $10 more per citizen and use it to fund an "idea war chest" for government employees. Or $3 Billion dollars. For every dollar a government employee's idea to cut spending actually saved, pay them personally 5 cents and add 5 cents to back into the savings fund.

So, if you had an idea that cut $10 million from our expenditures you'd walk away with $500K,...net to tax payers $9,000,000. Remember we want to keep this idea cost cutting thing rolling along...feed the kitty back $500,000.

Hey, guess what you don't even have to buck up the $10 spot :)

When someone close to me worked in the Agriculture Department, she used to say you would know the government was serious about cutting spending when they cut farmers' subsidies. At the risk of being like a politician who is afraid of the farm vote, that sounds like a good place to start.

The sad thing about farm subsidies is they don't get to the farmers they are intended to reach--the little guy--the family farmer trying to hold on to his farm and support his family. Instead the bulk of the subsidies go to the big corporate farms where investors reap the benefits. How do you change that? Social welfare going to the corporate bigwigs.

To the best of my know;ledge, your idea war chest already exists in most government agencies.

I know it exists in the Air Force, have known people who earned hundreds of dollars in reward for cost saving ideas. Remember reading articles about people who got rewards in the thou$ands.

Yes, but I'm advocating for NO CAP on the windfall and having the President making it a high visible National Mandated and Driven program.

Make heroes of those civil servants and get this ball rolling.

The problem is, everyone would say the same thing:

Cut anywhere you like ... except don't cut anything that affects me!

Start taxing all the big industries who continue to find ways to avoid their fair share... The way some industries and big business dodge taxes is criminal.
