Yay! I am delighted to announce the arrival of groups to TeeBeeDee.

TO START A GROUP: (for now - this will be changing shortly)

Go to this page,

http://www.tbd.com/culture

and click the "Create a Group" button in the upper right hand part of the gray box.

Enter the title, topic and description, invite others, and you're good to go....

(contact me at community@tbd.com if you have any questions)

Already, we have a bunch of excellent groups, started by members with passion, experience or simply an interest in these areas:

Career Change Workshop

Sex Talk

Couples'’ Communication

Diet Diaries (support for mindful eating)

Heffalumps and Woozles (intelligent politicalbanter)

Science Fiction and Fantasy

Birding

http://www.tbd.com/group/7/view

Wine-O-Rama

http://www.tbd.com/group/6/view

Writing

You can join as many groups as you like, and/or refer friends who might be interested as well. Access your groups from your profile (see the Groups tab) or each main topic page.

And there are so many other topics that would make a good group. Like Caring for an Aging Parent… or Books…or Movies…or Raising a Teenager…or Cooking…or… you get the picture. If you're interested in any of these, or any other topic under the sun, you should consider starting a group. Because chances are, someone else is going to be interested in that topic too. And that's what makes groups so great -- the ability to share info and common interests on an ongoing basis!

If you have questions about it, let me know community@tbd.com

Good point (the location is not as easy as it should be, and we are fixing that). click on this link

http://www.tbd.com/group/10/view

and then click on the "Create a Group" link in the upper right. Or email Betty community@tbd.com with any questions.

Not to be a wet blanket, but I have noticed that many groups get off to a fast start and then fizzle. is there any way that groups can be given more prominence so that people are more likely to see them and join?

I enjoy the ones I am in. I would enjoy them more if there were more frequent posts and enough members to prevent them from falling to the wayside.

Perhaps the group's monitor should be responsible for adding new questions when they don't thrive by themselves. Or have a list of topics that come right out of today's headlines!

Thanx in advance for your input.

The thing I find most frustrating about groups is that new discussions there don't show up on the home page, and alerts don't work for the discussions. So in order to find out if someone has written something new, you have to go to the individual group and open each discussion to see if someone has posted a new comment.

Great feedback, everyone.

Currently, you can start a group from any topic door (eg www.tbd.com/work). You can change topics in group creation, so you don't need to start it from the same topic in which your group belongs.

Starting later today, you will be able to start a group from the front door of TeeBeeDee.

Also, starting later today, you will be able to view a handful of featured groups from the front door, which should hopefully help out those groups which may be fizzling.

Milt I think you're right, that the admins of some of these less-active groups should be stepping up the activity. It's difficult to enforce this, however. I could nag folks (which I am, currently), but we all know that the motivation has to come from within to be sustainable, So -- that said -- if someone feels passionate about leading a group that's languishing, I would be happy to discuss this with you.

CarolT - yes, we are aware of this, and how incredibly frustrating this is. We will very soon be launching "interest pages" - which will not only include groups in the discussion rollup, but will have some pretty significant design changes as well.

Re: Interest pages, I will post a more in-depth note about that later this week, as there will be more fundamental changes there, which should hopefully make for a much more robust and useful experience here.

Thank you for all the feedback - please keep it coming!
