Maybe not the Oscars . . .

Another Academy Awards ceremony is upon us, and yet again I have no comments . . . largely because I have seen NONE of the nominated films . . . NONE of the nominated performances. This got me thinking, though, about those lesser known films that have come and gone - perhaps have become 'cult favorites', but never garnered an Oscar nod.

I'm sure I'll think of others as the day goes on, but a few of my favorits off the top of my head are:

- Night Of The Comet (on the silly 'cult classic' side)

- Wide Awake (sweet story about a boy searching for God)

- Truly, Madly, Deeply (NOT a chick flick, but one of the most romantic, heartfelt films I've ever seen. PHENOMINAL acting. This is the only film that has given me the 'gub gubs' - you know, where you're crying so hard that you can't talk)

What are your favorite films that never made it to the Oscars?

Under The Tuscan Sun . . . I forgot that didn't get an Oscar nomination. Diane Lane was nominated for a Golden Globe, but didn't win.

Oh boy, you've hit a nerve with me. I think the Academy completely overlooks great comedies and so on that note, I must mention "40-year-old Virgin" and "Knocked Up"... I LOVED those movies!

I used to eagerly anticipate the Academy Awards. No more. We rarely go to the movies anymore, instead we rent videos. Some of the ones that won lots of awards I just do not get. I like comedies and romantic stories. There is way too much bloody reality in the news for me these days

If you haven't seen Truly, Madly, Deeply - I can't recommend it strongly enough. And Wide Awake is cute, funny, and heartwarming. They'll both have you laughing and crying throughout the films! (In Wide Awake Rosie O'Donnell - not typically a favorite of mine - actually plays a nun . . . if THAT isn't a funny concept, perhaps you'll be amused by the fact that I'm pretty sure it's the ONLY film/show I've ever seen Denis Leary in where he doesn't swear like a drunken sailor)

"Truly, Madly, Deeply" has got to be one of the best love stories ever written and filmed. I'm tearing up just trying to write this. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but if that ain't love, I don't know what is. And I can't see the keyboard any mopre/
