No, they don't believe the crap they broadcast. They're entertainers, paid well to generate bs and controversy. The "shock jock" phenomenon has been around for twenty years now--why isn't it OVER already?

Many patronize them because they agree with the content. Others (?) find them amusing, and some people feel that the material presented is worthy of an argument. But if you ever hear him talk about himself and his career, you'll hear him say that HE doesn't take himself seriously. He states that he HAS NO TALENTS...can't dance, sing, not good looking, etc...but the people made him famous by letting him rant. I like that attitude...honesty...how original in today's society? He knows he is only a success because of others...and he is thankful toward us for that. If only so many others would learn that same lesson...from politicians, to athletes, to music, TV, and movie personalities...how much better might our society be for such a small, seemingly inconsequential thing? We had a lot in common due to both of us loathing the entire "disco" thing, even still. The problem is that I turned nineteen. Since that time losing all hunger to listen to the juvenile profanity laced with innuendo and taboo type humor, I just don't seem to care about any shock in what they say or do any more. What shocks me is that anyone would be shocked by them. This shock value sells. If it sells and people are buying this shows that there is demand. That's ok. If people are buying this crap, more power to the shock jocks. They'll just never get any of my money. That's ok too. I'm not in their market. Whether or not they believe in what they say, I don't care. I think most of them are only in it for the dead presidents. Same reason I show up for work every day..... Such is life. Face it, we live in a tabloid society where people can recognize photos of celebrities but not their state representative, let alone know their name. |
