St. Paddy's Day is fast approaching. I have always enjoyed the colorful Irish sayings and toasts. My favorite: "May you be half an hour in heaven before the Devil knows you're dead."

Anyone else have a favorite Irish saying or toast or blessing?

Plus I love Irish music. The Chieftains being one of our favorite musical groups. I think that Celtic music is necessary to beat the winter doldrums.

But I do not drink green beer !!!

I'm not Irish but everyone is on March 17 or for the St.Patty's day parade. Went to the one in NYC after 9/11. It was quite moving.

The the cops & the firemen proceed to get rip roaring drunk. Even in uniform...they marched in the parade you know.

Is this a NY thing or does everyone celebrate it across the country?

In our town, there is a small parade & friends of mine literally set up a tent along the parade route. Everyone brings goodies & they serve corned beef sandwiches and beer. I bring a vat of apple martinis. It's green ya know!

slainte mhath - literally "Cheers".

phonetically "slanji var"

Celtic - Irish and Scottish Gaelic are very similar but that phrase is the same in any Celtic language.
