The final word on Marmite

As we enjoy our new friendships at TBD it's difficult to ignore the fact that this is truly a global community. We're interacting with different people of different cultures, outlooks and lifestyles. This is revealed through the language we use, the perspectives we hold and the many mentions of everyday life contrasts.

Such was the case in one recent thread in which the subject was steered towards food.

The food that I'm referring to is more specifically...Marmite.

I'd heard of Marmite, but had never had the inclination to purchase any myself. It is a fermented yeast product and this description alone was enough to convince me that such a thing might not be worth the adventure of trying.

Our dear friend Britscot, a long time Marmite fan from way back, not only suggested I get over my prudish, pruney ways and try it, but also strongly implied that if I found I could not develop a taste for it, our long term relationship of two weeks now, might be in jeopardy.

So I tried it.

I'm happy to announce to all you hopeful, single women of the TBD kingdom that Britscot is now available and free to seek out the Marmite loving woman of his dreams.

It was fun Britscot and we had some laughs, but having to devour that so-called delicacy is one cultural difference that is definitely irreconcilable.

Wow! look at you smiling and looking very un-pruney! Work it girl! You're adorable.

As for marmite....um....I'll take your word on that one. I think I'll pass.

Forget the Marmite. You dear, look fabulous.

I will not be trying the marmite. You sold me on the last photo.

I think I will at some point try some Nutella.

...

Is it like Vegemite, the stuff Men at Work sang about?

How do you feel about poi, the Hawaiian taro root paste?

Personally I prefer Mr. Barkey's - much tastier than Milk Bones.

I've just realised what you have been doing wrong now that I have had a good look at the pics.

The butter goes on one side of the toast and the Marmite goes on the other. That way, it is one of those things that you can never put down.

It's worked for me for all my 65 years.
