Want to play?

Most of us have a little idle time (this is not to be confused with "Idol" time which is apparently tonight at 8:00 on FOX).

If you're one those people who enjoys romping from site to site on the Internet, blog hopping or playing link-to-link, you might enjoy this game.

It is called "Six Degrees of wikipedia". I found it on this blog.

Here's how you play:

Think of something random that is a topic that you could find in wikipedia. Then look around you. Is there a book nearby? A newspaper? A collectible? Look at that object. It will help you come up with another random thing that also is likely to be a wikipedia entry.

Now you have two topics.

Go to wikipedia.

Type in the first topic and pull up the article. In the text you will see lots of links to other sites. Start clicking those links and see if you can get to the site of your second topic in six or fewer clicks.

Get it?

I started with 'The Dalai Lama' (don't count this one). I was aiming to get to "Pulp Fiction".

1.) I clicked on a link to 'guru'

2.) From there I clicked on the link to India

3.) I clicked on 'cinema of India'

4.) I clicked on 'independent films'

5.) There I found 'reservoir Dogs'

6.) Ta-da! There was a link to "Pulp Fiction".

That might have been 7 steps actually, but I'm counting it as six.

You may want to share this game with your friends, form leagues, start a 'Six-degree's of wikipedia' olympics...or just remember it on a rainy day or lonely night.

If your nights are as lonely as mine, you may find yourself playing it often.

We have got to find something besides a mouse to get you out of the house. I hope someone comes up with a great Idea. I am just trying to express my concern for you. As always looking out for your interests.

Well, now that the snow here is melting I am pretty sure I will be spending less time on the computer. I do like wikipedia, though. But without access to high speed internet I am afraid it takes too long to actually do cool stuff. Here's how it goes:

turn on the computer, click on the dial up connection

go make my whole toast with peanut butter (creamy) for breakfast

check on the computer connection, click on yahoo and check e-mail

put on a load of laundry while I wait for connect to e-mail

read email, send replies if needed, click on tbd

while I am waiting for tbd to come out, write out check for utilities

yeah, tbd is up! browse threads . . .

someday we may get high speed way out here in the sticks, but in the meantime I am learning the virtue of patience!!

I'd say we need a 911 for Pru after this. At least an intervention. Maybe send her another mouse to keep her busy.
