30 Years ago on May 21, 1977, Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke," a sonic salute to Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington, topped the R&B - soul charts.

"Sir Duke" was also a number one pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks, May 21 - June 4, 1977. KC & The Sunshine Band's "I'm Your Boogie Man" knocked Stevie out of the top slot.

It's so hard to find performers of any genre today with very long careers.

Classic rock artists continue to tour and draw the most passion from their baby boomer fans.

Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and until recently the Isley Brothers standout among legacy R&B acts with the longest active track records. They continue to record new albums and tour.

Stevie Wonder's most recent CD, A Time To Love, was released in October, 2005. At the time it was his first studio CD in 10 years.

Prince, India.Arie, En Vogue, Hubert Laws, and Paul McCartney all contributed to A Time To Love, resulting in a very satisfying release. The excellent title cut pleads for universal love, world peace, and happiness.

What's your favorite Stevie Wonder track? I have two: "I Wish," and "My Cherie Amour."

Stevie was once asked what he'd do differently, and he said that he wished he spoke more languages, so that he could record his songs in more native tongues. "My Cherie Amour" fits right into that wish.

Ah Sir Duke! I loved this tune. Stevie is amazing. I've not given him much of a listen since the early 80s -- sounds like it's time to check him out again!

Favorite? I couldn't possibly choose one. Yeah, Sir Duke is a great one. I loved Talking Book and Music of My Mind, just about every cut. After that it started to get more spotty for me. Recently I've been indulging in his weepiest song (but beautiful) - "Lately"

For my money, Stevie Wonder's body of work created in the 1970's has to rank up there with some of the all time great runs in popular music. SInatra in the '50's, Lennon and McCartney in the '60's, Dylan in the '60's. So much great creative output.

All hail the Grammy king!

I saw Stevie in concert last week. Great show! No fireworks or fancy videos or fabbo special effects. Just the music, old school style, hit after hit. And yeah, "Ribbon in the Sky" is a terrific song. It always makes me cry because a friend used it in her wedding, and he did a great job of it "straight," then extended it to interact with the audience and show off his playful sense of humor.
