Crime in D.C. schools
Last April, TBD reporter Sarah Larimer filed a Freedom of Information Act request to D.C. police for all records of incident reports at public and private schools in the District going back to 2009. This past August, after Larimer took a job at Grantland.com, the documents started to roll in. The police sent TBD a document listing every incident (PDF) as well as hundreds of individual incident reports. They’re presented here with all original spelling intact and only the names of suspects and victims redacted in the rare cases that they’ve been left in. Some of the reports are heartbreaking, some are bizarre, and more than you’d think involve weaponized tape dispensers. There are lots of banal incidents, and a couple that should probably be feature stories (like this one). You can download the original spreadsheet we made here or sort these data yourself in the table below.

A brief search of the first floor revealed two open windows in the rear of the school, and several office doors pried open. K-9 was then notified and responded out to conduct a search of the location. A search of the building by K-9 ended with negative results. A further search of the location revealed several doors on the second level pried open and items scattered about the floor. DCPS officer Murray was unable to see S-1's direction of flight. SW) AS JEFFERSON - 1. THE UNDERSIGNED RECEIVED A TELEPHONE CALL FROM SECURITY(OFC. MITCHNER) AT THE SCHOOL THAT S-1 WAS INSIDE THE SCHOOL MAKING THREATS TO C-1. DEF-1 TOLD C-1 "IN MY COUNTRY, I KILL PEOPLE LIKE YOU"! S-1 MADE AN ATTEMPT TO COME INTO THE SCHOOL AT ABOUT 0930 HOURS TO SPEAK WITH HIS SON, BUT WAS STOPPED BY SECURITY BECAUSE HE DIDNT HAVE ANY IDENTIFICATION ON HIM. SECURITY THEN CALLED THE UNDERSIGNED OFFICER FOR ASSISTANCE. S-1 BECAME IRATE AND CONFRONTATIONAL WITH THE UNDERSIGNED OFFICER, BUT DID LEAVE THE BUILDING WHEN HE WAS ASKED TO. S-1 THEN CAME BACK TO THE BUILDING AT ABOUT 1400 HOURS WHERE HE MET WITH ANOTHER SECURITY GUARD(OFC. PARSON). THE SECURITY THAT HAD THE ENCOUNTER WITH HIM EARLIER THAT MORNING OBSERVED DEF-1 AND TOLD HIM THAT HE WAS NOT ALLOWED BACK IN THE BUILDLNG, AT WHICH TIME C-1 CAME TO ASSIST HER AND S-1 STATED TO C-1 "IN MY COUNTRY, I KILL PEOPLE LIKE YOU".S-1 THEN GRABBED HIS SON AND LEFT THE BUILDING AT WHICH TIME I OBSERVED S-1 WALKING WITH HIS SON. S-1 WAS STOPPED AND ASKED BY THE UNDERSIGNED OFFICER TO DISPLAY IDENTIFICATION. S-1 STATED "I DON'T HAVE TO SHOW YOU A MOTHERFUCKING THING". S-1 THEN TOOK OF HIS BOOKBAG AND GAVE IT TO HIS SON. I THEN TOLD THE SON TO STEP AWAY AND TO KEEP WALKING. I THEN TOLD S-1 TO STOP, AT WHICH TIME S-1 STATED "I DON'T HAVE TO DO A MOTHERFUCKING THING", I THEN APPROACHED S-1, AT WHICH TIME HE SWUNG ON THE UNDERSIGNED OFFICER. A BRIEF STRUGGLE ENSUED. One of the school age females had yelled out to S-1,2,3,and 4. The four suspects unkown had approached C-1 and surrounded her. C-1 stated that one of the females was an adult about 19 years. C-1 stated she believes the adult female that was to the rear of C-1 had stated"YOU SHOULD HIT HER". C-1 stated she was struck from the left rear of her by suspect female unkown and knocked to the ground and immediately punched by all of the female suspects. C-1 was taken to the hopital by her father shortly after the assault. C-1 was seen by doctors who preformed a ct scan with negative findings and was released. C-1 encountered S-1 and several 10th grade boys in the hallway and instructed all of them to go to class. Several minutes later C-1 passed by S-1 again and prompt him to go to class. As C-1 continued to walk down the hallway, S-1 walked up to C-1 from behind and grabbed C-1 around the neck with one hand. S-1 continued pushing C-1 down the hallway while holding onto C-1's neck. C-1 and S-1 then ended up in front of another classroom door where S-1 put his face near C-1's face and looked at C-1 in a threatening manner stating "You play with them too much and better stop" or "Stop playing with Us". C-1 then tried to open the classroom door that they were standing in front of, as C-1 reached for the door handle, S-1 let go of her neck. ADDITIONAL COMMENT: Immediately after the incident, C01 called S-1's parent (mother) and notified her of what happened.
