In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Klingon Chancellor Gorkon said, “You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon.” Thus, the impetus for a number of Klingon-Shakespeare translation projects, one of which resulted in the publication of a Klingon-language Hamlet. That’s just one of the Shakespearean plays that Trekkies will hear on Saturday’s By Any Other Name: An Evening of Shakespeare in Klingon, hosted by the Washington Shakespeare Company. Company members will join special guest George Takei, who played Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series and early films. Scenes from the plays will be translated into English for those who aren’t fluent, like this reporter, who is copying-and-pasting this Klingon translation of Hamlet’s “To be, or not to be,” and hoping it is accurate: “Khamlet: taH pagh taHbe'. DaH mu'tlheghvam vIqelnIS.” – Maura Judkis
