I propose a weeklong exercise on the topic of love in its various aspects. I know that love as a topic may sound corny, trite, overdone. That's not the kind of thing I'm after. Dig deeper. It's perhaps our most primal, complex emotion.
I was inspired by a communication from a friend. The face she shows the world is that of an independent, sophisticated, fiercely bright, razor-funny woman. But there was something else in her message to me -- a raw, unguarded and unvarnished yearning for a human match.
She was touching on that thing at the core of us all. That basic, indefinable, necessary, elusive, maddening THING that defines us and drives us.
I timidly suggested to our writing warden, Her Royal Fabulousness, that we tackle this as a topic. She made me drop and do fifty, lick her boots, then barked that I should propose it myself. A typically loving gesture.
This slippery love thing has many permutations. I suggest we tackle one each day. Riff in any way you choose, but try to stick to the day's theme.
