Good Things Come in 3's, Right?

Ah, today! A moment to share in my joy, if you will:

I have been offered a new, substantially better, job today.

I have set some new boundaries today with the father of my son, and am hopeful they will be respected.

While I am whirring through these e-mails, I am notified that I have a new e-mail from The Pedestal Magazine, to which I have submitted "The Door" for publication. ELATION! But, I make myself wait, finishing the two tasks I have already started.

I then zip to the Pedestal e-mail, and while it SLOOOOOWLY comes upon my screen, I see:

"Hi.

I am glad"

And the waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting for the rest of the page to load. I can hardly stand it! Only to see, 30 seconds of my life later,

"to present the January Newsletter!"

Ah, well. The Newsletter. Yes, important, thank you. I am still waiting for an acception for publication, or a rejection letter, for "The Door".

But, that's been my day!

Ah, but the 3rd good thing did come yesterday! With my new job comes new hours, and I will be able to take yoga classes again, at least one night a week!

New boundaries with the father of your son? Geez, I'm still trying to set responsible boundaries for the son of my father!

I know what it is like waiting for a letter from a publisher. Right now, I have a few out there. One for a novel is taking a very long time and that is after they asked for a supplemental submission of more of it. My fantasies tell me that they are passing it around. Yeah, and I have this other fantasy about the next time I rent my condo it will be to Brad and Angelina! If it is, it will be to Brad Schwartz and Angelina Buffalino.

The other is for a short story and we shall see what happens. That one is far more likely to get a yes.

Good luck. Don't call or write to inquire. Just move on. If they want you, they know where to find you. If they don't, they resent being put on the spot. I used to edit a Psych mag and when a writer would call, it would be a guaranteed death knell for his or her submission! You know what's funny? The writers who got published never inquired. The writers who inquired never got published. Is there some cosmic connection there?
