If you are looking for a way to turn your life experience into a college degree, there are some colleges that will let you do that. I went to UMASS and used my 23 years of experience as a PTA to get a BA in Health and wellness. You can write your own degree plan and you take creative writing classes that will assist you in this. I wrote a 75 page paper on the medicare system and how senior citizens are being shortchanged.

Were can I more info on writing my own degree. This interest me a great deal. I work fulltime so in order to afford online classes I would need to continue work during the day and take classes in the evening and weekends. If there is a website, post the link and I am so there.

The great thing about writing is you don't actually have to go to school to get better. You just have to keep doing it. You might want to try joining a writing workshops in your area (many meet in the evenings or weekends).

In SF and NY there's a group called Media Bistro and they run workshops for journalists and writers, they have job listings, and lots of useful articles for breaking into professional writing: http://www.mediabistro.com/

And of course, you definitely need to check out TBD's Writing group and Write Away camps (another one is starting next week) with Adair Lara.

Fielding Institute is a fully accredited, non-traditional university which requires attendance of only about two weeks a year. The rest is done at home and in small groups that meet for a day in a location near all the students in that region. The rest is by Internet.

They have all levels of degrees and you create your own program. You get some credit for life experience, though having attended submarine races as a youth does not qualify you for a degree in Marine Biology!
