I think you are going at this process backwards. Don't ask strangers what career to pursue. Look inward and see if there are any kinds of work you would have chosen if you hadn't chosen your present path. Then decide whether it is worth the sacrifice to get the tickets (education) to attain it. Then, look at what options you may have without upgrading your education and see if there is anything that lights your fire. I went through the process you are discussing at age 37. So, I quit my career, moved 3000 miles and went into business for myself. After 4 years, I decided to return to my old career, but after my new experience, I did it as an entrepreneur instead of as an employee and the rest of my career (24 years) was a wonderful trip. After retirement, I started a completely new kind of enterprise, part time. I've worked about 1 hour this year and earned almost double what my SS pays me! Just think what I could do if I worked 2 hours! The prospects look dim for that. The little engine that could keeps printing money ... and no, I'm not a counterfeiter!
