I will be losing my job of 20 years in the next few months. The hospital I work for will be closing. Over the past 6 months I have sent resumes to various hospitals, talked to friends about the possibility of changing careers. The responses I have received are dismal. Jobs that I apply for are being filled by younger, less experienced and obviously less money employees. Trying to network outside of the hospital is not going well because people seem to identify me with what I do. I am 53, a single Mom amd must continue to work. I know my age and experience is not in my favor. I can't imagine why a hospital would want an experienced person to take care of a sick person, but I realize it is exactly what they want. I need some fresh ideas. I don't want to send out another resume and not get a response. I am starting to get angry with some of my good friends, who have jobs where they may be able to help me but their response seems to be"What else can you do?" I can do anything, I just need someone to believe I can and a way to get there. Any suggestions?
