I agree that there seems to be more nastiness in the world today, but I wonder just how much of it can be attributed to our awareness that has been caused by the blanket coverage of such things by the news media, internet, etc. Are there more cases of cancer now than in the past, or are we detecting it sooner and more often, thus, making us more aware of the disease? Great question! I will be anxiously awaiting your findings and the results of your studies.

Hi Marcy. The actual statistics for earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.0 or higher since 1900 show that the years with the most earthquakes were between 1940 and 1950. It is estimated that there are 500,000 detectable earthquakes in the world each year. 100,000 of those can be felt, and 100 of them cause damage. Each year the southern California area has about 10,000 earthquakes. Most of them are so small that they are not felt. Only several hundred are greater than magnitude 3.0, and only about 15-20 are greater than magnitude 4.0.

There is a lot of data about earthquakes on the Internet as well. What Ed says is true too. There definitely is more coverage however I do believe that the statistics will show that there has been a significant increase in numbers of earthquakes since we started recording the data. I don't have the statistics for earthquakes lower than 7.0 so I'll have to keep looking.

Hey Marcy, it's interesting you would note the 'overall degradation' we are seeing. The Bible explains that one reason for all the turmoil (including severe weather, earthquakes, famine, etc) is because of man's sin. We also have some interesting prophecy from Revelation and Zechariah, a great earthquake that will result in the Mount of Olives being split apart, wide enough for a valley to form between the two new peaks. There are also some pretty bad astrological events coming, too.

Are we worse now than the old days? We do have medicines and treatments for plagues and the old scourges of mankind like leprosy, but even things like famine are becoming hard to remedy, because it is getting harder to get food to people, just as it is for medicine and relief for people in need. I think in the US we are reaching a critical mass. Things are going along okay but I think we all have a false sense of security. I don't think that people realize how quickly society can fail. Look at Katrina, a localized event in the Gulf states. If we in the US were to suffer several catasrophes, it would quickly dissolve to a society of haves and have nots. Even the military and civilian police, fire protection, etc., know that they would not be able to respond to multiple catastrophes at once.

To sum it up, I think we are really worse off than in the old days. People are more dependent on what the government can do for them, or a sense of security that someone else will help out when the need arises. I do hope and pray that things will get better, but at the same time I feel more of a need to be prepared for disasters.

Wonderful insights, DGM. I especially appreciate how you put certain events and variables in to different perspectives than even most respected authorities usually do.

Personally, I do believe that there has been a considerable deviation away from the most readily apparent cycles of climatological changes, as well as an increase in the frequency of severe earthquakes, and even in astronomical events. Yes, combined with larger populations, corrupt or simply inefficient government systems, increased worldwide tensions - these "birth pains" seem to be more rapid and more intense.

I am completely taken by today's Christian scientists who are specializing in creationism, biblical archaeology, biblical paleontology and such. If you or any other reader of this post knows of specific authors and/or writings along these paths, please do share them with me!!!

I fear for the unsaved. I worry for those whom I love that are unsaved - I am the only one in my Jewish family that loves Yeshua. That greatly grieves me. However, I admit that I am also enthralled by recent developments. That makes me feel a bit guilty.....

That is pretty much where I am now, Mike. I need to be more organised in my compilation of data. Many unbelievers are interested, or, at least willing to consider such facts. Therefore, I see it as a type of ministry to the more scientificaly oriented people, to provide them with factual information that might just jump start their questioning in reference to what we as Christians are taught by our Abba Father, and what they can validate for themselves, with a bit of help from me - us. If we say that thus and such was long ago foretold in the Bible, then offer irrefutable evidence for some of those prophecies, might that not chip away a bit at their hardened, analytical minds/hearts? I stood in their shoes years ago. I begged God to provide me with proof of some of what He wrote in His Word. (I had some nerve!) He lowered Himself to do just that, and my head is still spinning after all these years!

The first and foremost that comes to mind is Ken Hamm, who is an Australian but has some interesting insights on the hows and whys of creation.

I spent years training in science. The general public needs to realize that science is the process of making conclusions based on what we can observe or measure. We have logic as a tool, but the conclusions of today (or yesterday or of the 1830s) change based on what we can observe or measure in the future. When Darwin came up with his theory, it was neither scientific nor logical, but rather something speculated based on what he saw (not carefully observed). As more information has become available, the theory has had to change, and it is at the point of coming entirely apart. However, the general populace has been so ingrained with evolution teaching (by a bunch of authors who are not being scientific, but pushing their own agenda) that they believe Darwin, even if it is an act of faith on their part.

I should also recommend the Creation Research Institute. You can google them and I hear them on the radio every so often.
