It is not possible to answer your question with the information you provided. Businesses take time/money/skill/connections or some or all of the above. They also take the luck of Robin Hood. Most new businesses do not succeed. Only about 5% of businesses started five years ago still exist. If you depend on an income to survive, you are going to have to have an income independent of the business. Every business I started succeeded. Why? I had all of the four things I mentioned and I was able to sustain myself from other resources until they were profitable. Profitable means you make a fair return on invested money, you get paid for your own work in the business, and when you are tired of the business, you sell it for far more than you paid for it including "sweat equity." Your best option: figure out what time you have available and how much money you can sink into your own enterprise and then start a search for businesses that fit your position. between the time I started my first business and my present part-time one my position shifted dramatically. I went from being young and strong with lots of brains and little money to my present position which was worn out, brains all scrambled from a lifetime running at breakneck speed but enough money so if the situation was right, I could jump. I chose real estate. I don't have to transport it. I don't have to be there if i want to pay for someone else to rent it for me. I just have to have enough strength to open the envelopes every month when the rent checks come and take it to the bank rather than rolling it up and picking my teeth with it! Well, I've had two businesses that have succeeded before; one church cleaning business and one in real estate; and also one failed business. I did the best I could while traveling with a career soldier husband. Almost no one wanted to hire someone who had a "habit" of moving every 18 months.

I'm well aware that I don't have the time or the resourses that I had then; I've been taking care of my mom for two years. That's when I left my husband planning to take a job in another state; but found that Mom needs me here.

My assets are now at near zero. I don't want to "get rich", all I want is to figure out how not to be a financial burden on my mom. I want to pay for my health insurance and a cell phone. If worse comes to worst, I'll make crafts and sell them at the flea market. Even then I'll need help because I'd be running home to check on Mom.
