Do we have any past or present nonprofit board members who would be willing to introduce themselves and offer knowlege?

Served 7 years as Board Prez of wonderful small-budget non-profit corporation (NPC). My 1st piece of advice; no non-profit is so small that it should avoid financial best practices. Get those audits done! And do the right thing even when its a hassle!

I have lots of experience with non-profits and am willing to share. Not sure what information you are looking for

I have experience on both sides - as a board member and as a staff person. I agree that good financial practice is a top priority. Second to that is making sure the board and staff know their roles and responsibilities, and then managing them.

I've also been in both board and staff roles at nonprofits, and I second (or third!) the recommendation to be sure that good financial practices are in place. Before accepting a board role, it's also a good idea to be sure the organization has adequate Officers & Directors insurance in place.
At the risk of oversimplification, there are two different kinds of boards: working boards and governing boards. Working boards are usually found in startups or smaller organizations, sometimes before the first staff person is hired, and assume some responsibility for keeping the organization running. Governing boards are not usually involved in the daily work of the organization, but often assist with fundraising and other special tasks.

I am the Founder and Board President of a small non profit called 4 the World. It is a working board and we do not have paid staff. We work with our partners and often seek assistance or advice to help with our development while working together for a common goal.
I am on the board of two successful nonprofits and will be happy to share what I know.
