Yea, Robin! I live in the East Bay and only drive on the weekends, and then, only if I can't do it any other way. I love BART and Muni and bicycles and walking and the bus. I feel like I'm giving the Earth a break every time I step onto mass-transit. Not to mention all the people I've met in my community who ride the bus regularly.
We are so lucky to live in a place where it's so easy to get around. My 17-year-old daughter doesn't have her driver's licence, because she can't see the point--she can get everywhere she needs to go.

Living in the city provides you with options for transportation that don't exist in rural areas. If I don't drive, I would have to ride a bicycle. The sad thing is that at one time there was a public transportation system that connected small towns, but gas was cheap so people stopped using it many years ago.
Good for you. I wish I had such a choice but living in a semi rural area of Tennessee public transportation is not an option. I did have my car and truck tuned up and gained 2 and 4 mpg respectively.
