What do you do with your plastic bags, besides try to take cloth ones to the store? Several bigger grocery stores here...
Where I live in Colorado, we have a center for hard to recycle materials (CHARM) which takes electronics, styrofoam block, plastic lawn furniture and other hard to recycle items, like plastic and paper shopping bags. I understand CHARMs are popping up all over, I'd check for one near you. I keep a stack of all my CHARM items in the garage, and head over there every few months. Most of it is free, although they do charge to take electronics. Some friends of mine who live in a condo complex take turns, each family taking a load for all once a year.

I actually learned from my Grandmother, who lived through the depression, to reuse them. Instead of buying plastic bags to use for sandwiches and storing food in the 'fridge, I rinse and reuse the ones I bring home from the grocery with produce in them. I use them until they are no longer clear or have too many holes in them to be usable. I suppose I would prefer not to use them at all, but this is better than using once and tossing into the landfill.

My husband takes all our plastic bags to the local library, where they give them to the patrons when it rains (which it does here a lot).
There is also a local grocery chain that recycles plastic bags, so my hope is that the library patrons eventually pass them on to be recycled.

I am not sure if you would consider this recycling, however I make a conscious effort to minimize the number of plastic bags the store actually uses for my "goods" - asking the baggers to basically put as much as possible in to each bag.

Each of those steps, in that order. All the focus on recycling unfortunately ignores the benefits of the other two, which dwarf it in terms of impact.

Our grocery stores here have bins to put in the old bags - I take mine and reuse them then I discard there. I have been buying the canvas bags one at a time as budget allows and will eventually only use them. Good idea to take to library too thanks
