your hand was slow in tracing the paths
of fireworks across my back
nerves exploding in colors, intimated sparkles, the sound
drawn out of me as if coming
from underwater
you swam into the depths of the night
amid blossoms of fire
the brief pyrotechnics of stars spanning years
through seasons unreckoned
outnumbering snowflakes
uncountable eons
pin wheels never dimming
until
time
fades to nothing and never
your lips brushed the finest hairs
your mouth trembled at my ear
"i want to die" you said
"like a flower of light in the warm
black sky
of your inexorable longing..."
so then
soon enough the sigh
your breasts to my glistening back
your breath falling through the speechless mnemonic susurrus
your river of black lethean hair drowning the last waking moments
as if they were no more nor less than the petals of
ophelia's flowers
or persephone's
as far below or high above
the cannon call
the thunder roll
the echo of our startled mortality
reached out
ghosts of gunpowder descending
beyond all tantrums or hysterics
the silent moon in cirrus scarves o'ertopping the spectral cumuli
in her endless
silent flight
all independence
