Any ideas for beating some intelligence into COMCAST?

They upgraded something last week. I haven't been able to use Outlook since. Server found, time out waiting for a response on both the pop and smtp sides.

From the help desk: "Microsoft server problem," "must be Outlook but we don't support it," and a whole raft of other amazingly stupid answers.

So far, I've managed to prove to them their authentication server is seriously frelled - but I had to beat it into them after it wouldn't let them reset a password it lost.

I doubt they even know what CNE and MSCE are but I'll bet they're on Microsoft servers. (Clearly not enough knowledge in the whole bunch to spell UNIX.)

I went through a similar charade with Pac Bell a few years and several name changes ago. The guy in India was very helpful in spirit but worthless as far as achieving anything good.

Then I spoke to someone in the US who was equally unhelpful. Finally I got escalated to their real support center in San Diego. In 5 minutes he was sure I needed a new modem. Two days later I had one and was back on line.

I guard that San Diego phone number.

But the lesson is to ask to have your issue escalated to a higher level. Be careful about being transferred to a manager though. They are often non-technical people to placate problems and not solve anything.

If it gets too hopeless and its a public company, contact Investor Relations. Miracles can happen. LOL

It seems that no one can tell these people anything because they're the experts and we're the bozos.

I find a small rate of success when I can "lead" them to find the answer. In other words, ask them if it might be so and so. Give them hints.

Cry a lot.
