I'm about to start an online class Monday titled "Examining Diversity Through Film." Some of the titles we are required to view are: "Spanglish", "Children of a Lesser God", "Coming Home", "Brokeback Mountain", "Far From Heaven", "American Beauty", "Kissing Jessica Stein", "Lets Talk Sex", "Rosewood", "Snow Falling on Cedars", "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", "Crash" (I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!)...and there are a couple others the professor hasn't posted yet.
Anybody care to comment how these films relate to diversity? In particular I will be interested in the aspects of how they portray oppression, racism, sexism, ablism, homophobia, etc.
Any comments on the subject are welcome and may provide a good "jumping off point" from which I can write the multitude of papers that are going to have to go along with the watching of these films.
Peace.
