I'm thinking of this topic right now because I went to see the new "Beowulf" this afternoon, and oh man, it is never too early to start warning people about a terrible film. Take wonderful, expressive actors... then put them through motion capture technology so that their faces lose all expression and their eyes no longer focus. It is so bad. So very, very bad. I sat through it with my son - who is an English major, who loves animation, who has played video games for years - and he turned to me at the end of the film and said, "What the HELL?"
The only thing that could save this film at all would be vigorous heckling with a group of your best friends. And there are others in that genre. My personal favorite would be "Showgirls" - the movie that was so bad even nudity couldn't make it interesting. But with a group of your unruly friends, with some snacks and drinks? Now you're talking.
Also in this genre - "Battlefield Earth," although the challenge with this film is that it has so much heckling fodder that it's hard to know where to start.
What films would you avoid? What films are worth heckling?
