Invariably, yes. There are exceptions like

Kevin Smith. Those Jay and Silent Bob movies

got better as the storyline progressed. I dunno if you'd consider them sequels, but I think they fall into the category. I never watched any of the sequels to 'Friday", but I seriously doubt they got any funnier.

It brings to question whether or not Hollywood has ANY originality left at all.

Seems to me all they know how to do anymore

is rehash the same old storyline, give it some new and different characters and a new title. Anybody for "DIE HARD: Ad Nauseam" or "SCREAM VI" or "High School Musical: The Post-Grad Years"?!!!? Wait a minute, wasn't that one called St. Elmo's Fire?

Well, yeah, there is that. Everyone seems to be trying to copy each other too much.

I am a big fan of pirates of the caribbean. I have a couple of friends that don't share my interest in them making more sequels. Please tell me there will be more than 3. My son and i can sit and watch them over and over again and never get bored. I guess its all in what you like. I have seen some movies that should have never had a seguel but there is someone out ther enjoying them none the less but what about the movies that have an ending that is left open for a sequal and they never make one.

I saw an interview with that annoucer guy who does most of the movie trailers; they asked him if he ever felt dishonest about the hyperbole he read about every movie being "The greatest blockbuster of the summer!" etc. He said he never felt bad about it because every movie is somebody's favorite.
