Asheville (and Western North Carolina in general) is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The mountains have trails everywhere. And there are rivers like Nantahala and French Broad for kayaking. Great Smokies, Blue Ridge Parkway, Joyce Kilmer, Pisgah National Forest... it's just amazing! Craggy Gardens is popular but it's a really low key hike. Pisgah is for die hards. (-:
