A walk through the Book of Psalms (in random order) with a brief reflection on each Psalm. I hope you are as eager as I am to hide the Word of God in your heart. Feel free to comment.
Why Me, Lord?
Psalm 22
1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
2 O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
Many people refer to Psalms 22 as the "Psalm of the Cross". I encourage you to read Psalms 22 in it's entirety to fully understand why this reference is made.
Psalms 22 begins with "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?", a phrase that was uttered by Jesus Christ just before his death on the cross (see Matthew 27:46).
This psalm is meant to show us that there are many times in our life when we feel that God has completely forgotten us.
Because of our suffering, we cannot see the "big picture" of God's plan. God has a plan for all of our lives. We may not understand why we must deal with the pain and distress but He has never forgotten us. He has never turned his back to us. Everything that happens is because of God's plan. The 4th verse of this scripture confirms that "Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them". Romans 8:28 tells us that "all things work together for good to them that love God".
Praise God today to know that you are a part of the "big picture", God's plan. Trust in that plan and know that everything you experience in this life has a purpose and a reason.
"There in no unrighteousness with the God of Jacob, he deserves no censure; let him do what he will, he is to be praised, and to reign enthroned amid the songs of his chosen people. If prayer be unanswered it is not because God is unfaithful, but for some other good and weighty reason. If we cannot perceive any ground for the delay, we must leave the riddle unsolved, but we must not fly in God's face in order to invent an answer." -- C.H. Spurgeon
