Drink water out of your own cistern?
This is how I live this verse. We either live the Bible or we merely read it.
The entire chapter is to prevent fornication and adultery and presumptuous sins as lewdness and filth.
Clear enough?
The grass is not greener on the other side.
I also think of the well of water that springs up within me leading to eternal life. No one can possibly give me what I need except Jesus Christ. I need not go to any but Him for all my needs in life.
This, for me, refers to the Commandments, Thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not covet...., and thou shall have no other gods before me.

well thank you --any one else
In Isaiah 35, it seems to refer to prosperity. A man will be at peace and have enough strength and funds to dig his own well and not have to rely on the community well.
In Jer. 2:13, it speaks of one's own strength and resources. To drink from one's own cistern is to rely on oneself rather than on God. It speaks of rebellion.
Thanks, Ken, that was very good. It made me realize I did not note my one scriptural example and therefore it made no sense in the context it was used in.
Pro 5:15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
