Psa 23:5 Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anoints my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
What in the world do the words in this passage mean to someone who is suffering from mental disturbance: God anoints my head? An anointed head means God has poured the fragrance of Jesus Christ upon you as a believer. We overflow in the abundance of a rich spiritual life in Christ. We give testimony to Him as yesterday we discovered we walked through the valley, a deep depression, but He was and is our Shepherd who still guides us. Perhaps we stumble on the journey, but because we do have the mind of Christ, we recover and begin to be strong again in Him.
We never have a stoppage of the abundant life in Christ. When our minds do fail us for a season, His anointing continues to flow. We are just perhaps not sighted enough to realize that because our attention is on self-preservation and not upon the Lord. We shall indeed overflow once more.
When that anointing abides upon us, we begin to let it flow out to others because we know the blessings of God upon us. We know the sweet moments of relief and release upon our minds. We know through wisdom and experience, there is not one body part as valuable and necessary as our brain is. It is that very brain that teaches us compassion for others and in that we want to share our experiences and source of comfort with others.
If you have recovered or in the process of recovery from mental illness, all you need do is to be grateful to God. Spread the Good News of hope to others who also have been afflicted in this outrageous attack by the enemy upon you. Then, and only then, will the table prepared for you in the presence of enemies will Jesus sacredly sit at the head and distribute the realization of the many blessings to yet be received. Let us all pause this upcoming Thanksgiving Day to truly rejoice for our mental heath and the wisdom we now are anointed with.
