Deu 4:30 When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the LORD your God and obey his voice. Deu 4:31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.
We are mindful that no one is born with mental illness that can be noted. It comes upon us because some wiring has gone wrong in our latter days. Few diagnoses are made until later in life. For some of us it is a chemical brain imbalance. For others it is an over circuit of stress or lack of sleep. There can be many causes and it does appear according to statistics and studies that mental illness is on the rise. Or is it? Are we just now more fully aware of it now that it has touched us or a loved one?
Whatever the case may be, a big obstacle to overcome is not to be angry with Godâforever at least. I know I felt anger at God for allowing this to happen to me. As I realized He never promised me a rose garden, that anger subsided and I knew I was not alone. God was the only one that could truly understand my anguish and frustration. He knew my ups and downs. He was merciful even when others were not.
When I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior twelve years earlier than my mental illness arrived, I had entered into a covenant with Him. That simply means He is our God; we are His children. He will not destroy us, forget us, or nullify His love and devotion to us. Nothing can separate us, not even the affliction of an unstable mind. We are more than mind. We are also soul and spirit. That belongs to Him and He will allow nothing to separate us from Him.
If you are still struggling with acceptance, and perhaps are still in denial, He will help you work through the issues. He will not refuse you when you turn to Him and reason together with Him. You are invited. Accept the invitation. Let God minister to you as only He can do. He cannot turn His back on you. Donât turn yours on Him. He has sworn to be with you always. Make peace with God and you will find peace you need to climb over your obstacle.
