For those who do not like the fact that Easter, Christmas and Rapture are not found in the Bible, we add another word to that list and it is Maundy.
The word Maundy comes from the Latin for 'command' (mandatum). It refers to the command given by Jesus at the Last Supper, that his disciples should love one another.
In those days it was usual for a servant to wash the guests feet on arrival. On this occasion of the Last Supper there was no servant present and none of the disciples volunteered to do the menial task. Instead, Jesus got up and washed his disciples feet, giving them an object lesson in humility and service.
Jesus gives us many touches of love and many opportunities to serve others. In a world that is often cold, we have the opportunity this day to display love to one another.
It is my prayer that if you should perchance upon this post, that you do something extraordinary today to benefit a weary "traveler" on life's journey. You will find God will place them in your life if you will but be open to an act of obedience to an object lesson in humility and service.
The day was not even an hour old, I did not have to leave the comfort of my home, no one but that disciple's feet that I "washed" figuratively with the tears of Jesus was seen, but to him and I, yet I was sensitive to someone's suffering as I take Jesus' words to us literally. You can to. You will never forget what the word Maundy means and the significance of this word in your Christian heritage.
Mat 28:19a Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples.
