Beautiful. I think horses are just about the most perfect animal. We have two, and they are the biggest babies around. We can't ride anymore due to health issues, but we wouldn't take anything for the days we can just go and pet and love the boys.

I used to ride one of those! His name was Nikki, I was training him to be a jumper. He could jump over a 4' fence standing still. He was a love bug too!

Hi I have 5 horses ranging in age from 21 to 2 years. Just starting over in raising horses so might need some advice on how to train them. None are broke except the old mare and I bought her for a companion horse. 2 of my horses are registered paints, one is half Tenn. walker, the old mare is his mother. And the other one is half quarter horse she is the baby. So I have alot of work cut out for me to try to break 4 of them. Advice appreciated.

Congrats on starting over with horses! I truly believe that once it's in your blood, it's a forever love. As far as training advice, what's worked best for me is thinking the way the horse does. If the horse isn't getting something, then it's me not requesting what I want the way the horse understands. Consistency and patience and lots of thought into your lesson plans is the key. Never train when you're angry and if things don't go well, there's nothing wrong with backing up and ending the lesson with something the horse does well. Both you and your horse need to stop feeling good about what you've done and each other. My philosophy is if the horse ended the session calmer than he started, it was a winner! I show quite a bit, mostly Western Pleasure, halter and the like. Recently branched out into Sidesaddle (I just started showing Arabs). I love pattern classes like reining and horsemanship and showmanship. I used to drive ponies as well. If it can be done on a horse I've probably done it! Rodeo to dressage. I have lost my need for speed, so prefer the more sedate pace of the western pleasure and eq classes. I have just recently started my paint mare lacey on cows and we are doing ranch sorting and team penning...that is a BLAST! I'm having so much fun. A group of us girls go out every Tuesday night and chase cows. We call it "cowgirlin'". Glad to see others on here having as much fun as I do. The name of my farm is "Expensive Habit Farms" enough said eh?
