Every July I go to a National forest in central Idaho. It is next to a wilderness area but we drive thru rustic roads to a campsite w/ a pit toilet up the hill but no other amenities. We pack our own water, enough to shower after our rides, and the site overlooks the breaks of the Salmon river and Oregon. What makes the trip for me is a old pit mine that.....this is true....you cannot take a step without stepping on Garnets. I don't even pick up the little ones. I look for the rocks crusted with them and fill my saddle bags. I packed out one this year that was as big as 2 footballs and garnets everywhere. Then our campfires are welcome relaxion, our days rekindle our relationships with the horses.
