It must have been wonderful to have so many years being around horses and all the great experiences you must have had. I am moving the opposite direction. I have never had horses but have always loved them and wanted to own some and learn to ride. So, at the tender age of 47 I started taking my first lessons in both riding and horsemanship. I have learned a lot in the past year but have barely scratched the surface. My kids are both grown, but not yet "gone" and eventually I would like a small acreage and a few horses. I hope you have the chance to have them again if your husband gets tired of the boat.

Hi Michael, It was wonderful for sure. There is nothing like it . I miss my horses like crazy . Do your kids enjoy hores too. My boys never really even came out to the barn unless they had to . My oldest is into computers and my youngest has his own band. City Slickers the both of them .

Enjoy your lessons , it's never too late to lean and boy is it worth ever minute.

And as for the boat thing well maybe things can change . I never give up hope.

What a beautiful pony. I've loved horses since the day I was born. I have a little arab mare named Magic and wouldn't give her up for anyone, of course we've been together longer than any humans I've known. Hope you get to have horses again one day. Life is short.

I am saddened but relieved that I sold my Belgian team this weekend. They are going to a good home on coastal Oregon to a new organic farming delightful woman. The team and I were the best of friends, but I lacked adequate time to work them which is their joy, and my wife didn't care for any of the associated activity and was stuck with caring for them with my business travels. So I was selfish on all accounts.

On a better note, my 4 saddle horses are more and more of a joy, and I'm getting more help at work to free me up to enjoy them more. Despite a prolonged winter I've already had several good rides..

I am sorry to you had to let the Belgians go. Sounds like they went to good home. You had to make a tough decision.

On a bright note looks like your saddle horses will get quite a workout now.

As a lifelong horse lover and owner, I was so pleased to find this group. I've had my share of wonderful experiences and not so wonderful experiences with horses. As a child, my dream was to own a horse ranch, breeding and training horses. Though I never realized that dream, I have managed to keep and enjoy horses throughout the years. I am now looking for a good starter horse for my 7yo granddaughter. We are having a good time doing it, but she had to get the idea that it wasn't the same as going to PetsMart and buying a gerbil. I look forward to hearing and sharing horse stories with other members of the group.

Hi All! I am very happy to find this group! Horses are the center of my life today. One of my greatest satisfactions is to look out the window and see my little herd grazing. The lessons they have taught me are countless. I trail ride two of my quarter horses and care for my retired gelding and little mini. Horses were a childhood love and it took me a long time to get back around to them. Three years ago I purchased a little farm and am living the life I've always dreamed of. To those folks missing your horses, I give you credit for finding them good homes. It's clear how much you love them.
