This method also works with propagating geraniums.
Yes I do love to have fresh herbs handy for my cooking. I've got thyme growing in the ground but they don't seem to do well when I get them inside the house, same with rosemary.
Hey all
You may know this already. But I just threw a stalk a basil into empty vase and fill it with about a 2/3 to 1/2 water and after a few weeks - roots start coming out and you can then plant them and propagate more of the herbs.

Yes - it was by accident I found that out. Oh and yes - it works well with both geraniums and mosquito plants. Just me - cut and put in water and see what happens! :) I have an 8 yr old avocado tree in a pot that I bring into the house over winter and take it out in summer - started with throwing the seed from making avocado dip into a pot of soil and a seedling grew! I'm so happy - it'll probably never grow fruit but it's a nice plant - and I'm living in the midwest! LOL

I love avocado plants too. Hey have you ever brought in eggplant or peppers for the winter? I just dug up one of my eggplants and a pepper plant to see if they would winter over. Got a late start on my garden this year and the freeze is upon us here in MT.

Yes I have brought in peppers over the winter and they fare well if you have a sunlit window - but be careful of mites - they look very tiny and can cover the plant/leaves. I try to wipe them down if that happens. Haven't found a good way to get rid of the mites entirely. I also have quite alot of spiders in and around the house and sometimes they do make a home in the pepper plants! Yuk! Sorry-I don't like eggplant so have never grown them. They are predicting frost next week so I have already prepared my plants for bringing inside. I bring geraniums, mosquito plants, mums, peppers, avocado, vines inside.

Sorry for the delay replying: Yes i agree with you on propogating geraniums...sounds like we do a lot of the same stuff.
Our rosemary is in bush clumps outside & in MS its available to pick all year round. I propogate that from offcuts stuck into potting soil and that works fine.
Thyme is in the ground too all year. Parsley (several types)is in the pots on the porch. We love to have fresh herbs around us. We have a bay leaf tree in the garden too. Cooking is a big hobby for both of us...
