Dave419 asked us if we were honest when critiquing art. In the discussion, we touched on what constitutes art (good, bad or not really). Something that I have wondered for a long time and would like to get you all's opinion on is this: Does money really determine what is art? Someone can compliment what you have created from now until the end of time but if they are not willing to buy it, what does it really mean to them? So does the ultimate compliment come in dollar signs? If nobody is willing to buy it, does that mean its subpar, not good enough? If an artist is creating for their own enjoyment and doesn't expect to sell their creations, then I guess it doesn't apply to them. But if you are an artist who creates because you love to create and you hope to make a living from your creations then money becomes part of your equation. So what do you think?
