I agree I think it was our Grandmothers and the woman of the 50's they all had short hair, well in pictures any way who started the no long hair after 40.. Look in my scrapbook at my friend Rose and I, we both have very long hair and love it!!

I wouldn't cut my hair for anything, and I'm 52. As my hairdresser says, "I'll let you know when it's time"!

If wearing your hair longer makes you feel sexy, I say don't even think about getting it cut!!! This aging thing is hard enough without succombing to perceived notions about what length your hair should or shouldn't be at a certain age. I cut my hair really short a few years ago and I absolutely hated it, I felt less feminine and I couldn't wait to grow it back. We're not supposed to have regrets but I truly regretted that short haircut. Enjoy your long locks, you look great! :)

Foxy lady, I too bought into that hogwash and wore my hair short for years. I didn't hate it but secretly envied women who had longer hair.

Just before turning 50 I found out about my stbx's affair and shipped him home. I will admit that letting my hair grow was more a function of the general paralysis of this era, but I am with you all the way on this. Mine is now about shoulder-length and because it's very fine and I live in a humid climate I won't go much longer. I do love having the freedom of wearing it up or down or in a pony tail when I go to the gym.

As for feeling sexy -- on a good hair day, absolutely! And for bad hair days there's always a scrunchie and who the hell cares?

Personally, I don't understand where this "rule" comes from, I think long sultry hair on woman is incredibly sexy!!!

My hair is short but it has absolutely nothing to do with my age or any social rules. I just got tired of fussing with it. Right now I'm enjoying the low maintenance of shorter hair, but who knows, I may grow it out again.

Bottom line, do what YOU want!
