Brisingr, by Christopher Paolini, at 784 pages, didn’t take long to push past Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, Book 4. Despite the popularity of both books, neither are receiving scalding hot reviews.
Brisingr, though well received by those hungry for a good fantasy tale, is not without its criticisms. Some reviewers are preparing for the worst, wondering if Paolini will perform a Jordan-esque spiral, and churn out word counts that kill the story before it reaches a satisfying conclusion. Initially set to end as a trilogy, the Inheritance drama is now poised to become a cycle, with a fourth book to be released in the near future. Only time will tell if this cash cow will be allowed to die a timely death by its publisher.
The Twilight Saga, on the other hand, has wrapped up with Breaking Dawn. Fans of the series are torn on this one as well, with many negative reviews bashing Meyer’s concluding book. Make no bones about it, the debate over the ending of this saga is raging, with the top rated negative review on Amazon having received more than 300 comments and counting. Needless to say, Twilight is a success, love it or leave it.
Another book selling like mad, and raging in the comments and review wars is The Shack, by William P. Young. The Shack is a “guy meets God” novel. Nope, you read that right…I did not say guy meets girl. And believe it or not, the review battle seems to be taking place between Christians of varying theologies. Go figure.
