If the convention is going to be a two-day cocktail party and everyone flitting from conversation to conversation like it is on-line. that'll get old pretty fast.
When conversing on-line, a person can put a little thought into their posts do something else for a while then press the 'submit' button.
Face to Face, is a little different.
Do you think there should be a convention theme and break-out groups or separate "seminars" for lack of a better term?
I think this is a great opportunity for people to promote their books, workshop their screenplays, network for new jobs and generally add a reality-based component to the on-line communities. For instance, there could be an entire "cracker-barrel" session about reinventing yourself after job loss or job boredom; or one on spirituality. It would be up to group leaders and members to create safe-places to convene.
I think that this can plant a seed for TBD to be a driving force in the country. If you look at social networking sites like MySpace, they are beginning to have an "off-line" presence among the younger crowd. MySpace sponsored a lounge during the Democratic National Convention at one of the local clubs. The place was jammed. There are lots of MySpaces and other alternatives for that demographic. The competition is greater. TBD can forge its own future here since it is the only show in town.
