If you like mysteries set at British universities (and there are lots of them) you'll probably like the Cambridge Theorem by Tony Cape. The underlying premise is farfetched but it's fun anyway -- kind of a Le Carre-style post-Cold War story revolving around a brilliant graduate student who sets out to solve the Kennedy assassination and to learn the identity of the unknown member of the famous British spy ring.
The original model for all British university mysteries is Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers, one of the best mystery writers ever.
