I left my teaching job to take care of my daughter when she was born. I have taught art and ceramics classes on a part time basis for the past six years. I am trying to find another way to use my education and work experience (MFA, experience in pre-k to adult teaching, museum experience- art archives) in the work world. I have a few ideas 1) to set up my own studio. 2) To return to teaching on either the elementary or college level.
After a year of looking for a teaching job, using a service, going on many interviews and teaching demos I haven't found the job that fits. I am beginning to think it is ageism. Or some horrid flaw no one in my family/friends sees or dares to tell me about in my resume, my interview skills, demo teaching ability?
So I am looking for creative, better paying, work which isn't necessarily office based although I would consider it.
However I can't move and must have flexibility or at least understanding (ie working with people with more going on in their lives then their jobs) due to family needs etc.
Any ideas? Comments? Suggestions?
